
Charles W. Smith long time resident of Colorado Springs passed away at his home on Tuesday, 15th of November after a long battle with cancer.
Charles was a distinguished career soldier serving in the United States Army for 22 years retiring in 1975 as a 1st Sergeant.
While serving in the Korean Conflict he received a purple heart and a bronze star.
During the Vietnam Conflict and the “Tet Offensive” he received the Soldier’s Medal for Bravery and the Bronze Star with an oak leaf cluster.
He has an array of other accommodations to long too list.
His pleasures in life included working, spending time with his family, fishing, and watching the Denver Bronco’s.
Survivors include three sons, Reverend Peter C. Smith of Asheboro, North Carolina, Edmund Smith of Newport, New Hampshire and William M. Smith, of Colorado Springs; one daughter, Denise Mielke of Lowell, MA. Two daughter-in-laws, Jackie and Gail; one son-in-law Harold, six grandchildren, Wesley J. Smith, and Katie A. Smith, of Asheboro, North Carolina, Mathew Adam and Erica Annis Smith of Warner, New Hampshire, David Lee Mielke of North Fork, VA, and Jaymes Aaron Mielke of Denver, Colorado, One great granddaughter, Emory M., three sisters, Rosaline Chiappone of Ohio, Mary Lou Fritz of Indiana, Joanne Smith of Texas and one brother Paul D. Smith of Arizona, numerous nieces and nephews through out the United States and Germany.
Preceding him in death are, his wife of 45 years Anna B., one son David Charles Smith, his mother and father, Maude A. and Paul B. Smith.
Viewing will be at The Shrine of Remembrance, 1730 E. Fountain Blvd., Colorado Springs on the 21st of November at 10:00 to noon with Graveside services to follow at Evergreen Cemetery with Reverend Peter C. Smith officiating.
