Anna Benker Smith

Anna Benker Smith, beloved wife of Charles W. Smith, passed away Thursday, February 24, 2005 at 6:33 p.m., at memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Anna was born Wednesday, October 31, 1934 in Fürth, Germany to Fritz and Katharina (Weggel) Benker.  Anna married Charles W. Smith on November 6, 1959 in Germany.  Together she and her husband traveled world wide with his military career.  The couple settled in Colorado Springs in 1973.  Anna enjoyed macramé and collecting figurines however her greatest enjoyment came from being a mother and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her husband of over 45 years, Charles W. of Colorado Springs; three sons, Reverend Peter C. Smith of Asheboro, North Carolina,  Edmund Smith of Newport, New Hampshire and William M. Smith, AAS of Colorado Springs; one daughter, Denise Mielke of Denver, Colorado; Two daughter-in-laws, Jackie and Gail; one son-in-law Harold, six grandchildren, Wesley J. Smith, RN and Katie A. Smith, CNA of Asheboro, North Carolina, Mathew and Erica Smith of Warner, New Hampshire, David Lee Mielke, Petty Officer 1st Class, USS Cole,  and Jaymes Aaron Mielke of Denver, Colorado; One great granddaughter, Emory M.; three sisters, Luise Lohse of Nüremberg, Germany, Helga Fischer of Fürth, Germany and Kathy Boyd of New Mexico; numerous nieces and nephews through out the United States and Germany.

Preceding her in death was one son David Charles Smith

Graveside services will be held 3:00 p.m., on Monday, February 28, 2005 at Evergreen Cemetery with Reverend Peter C. Smith officiating.

 

Shrine of Remembrance, 1730 East Fountain Boulevard, Colorado Springs, Colorado are handling the arraignments.
